Whether you’re aware of it or not, a shift in your perspective is underway. Let Wednesday’s New Moon at 22° Gemini be a reference point. A point of before knowing. Once this shift takes place inside of you, there is no going back.

Since the Sun moved into Gemini on May 21, we’ve been feasting on all things Gemini, that is activities that provide us with mental stimulation, connection, and a hurried sense of needing to know more. This makes us feel good. Like a toddler, we feel curious, vital, and ready to interact with the world around us. Take stock of your activities over the past weeks and during the weeks ahead, a general theme will arise. This is a clue to your coming perspective shift.

Another clue can be found in the recent Sun-Neptune hard aspect. Neptune tends to sensitize and dissolves whatever planetary energy it touches. Opening us to a greater level of experience and connection. This is awesome, if you’re currently experiencing easy emotions and not so awesome if you’re experiencing more challenging ones. Since we are more porous at this time, our thoughts will seem to inundate and overwhelm us. This too is part of the perspective shift. New information is seeking a way through the noise of the old. It’s seeking a way through your consciousness (the Sun). Although it feels disorienting, this is what is needed for the shift. Like learning to walk, we are a bit wobbly at first and with time we are able to master this new way of perceiving ourselves and the role of our life.

The ruler of this New Moon, Mercury, will be in earlier Cancer. Mercury represents our rational mind, the intellect. Having Mercury in Cancer at the time of the New Moon is part of the magic of the upcoming perspective shift. When it travels through this water sign, our intellect looks to the subjective state of feelings for information. Therefore, while a perspective shift is happening, it will likely come through the feeling state. While Mercury is in Cancer (until June 30th), this will be a good time to reconnect to how you personally understand your feelings. What sorts of information does feeling happy, sad, angry, scared, or confused bring up in you? Feelings are oftentimes vague and irrational, an uncomfortable place for Mercury who likes to deal with objective information.

Below is a practice that can help you decipher what your feelings want to tell you during this New Moon cycle.

How to work with your feelings

  1. Be with it. Before anything else, your feeling wants your attention. It wants to be felt.
  2. Name it & write it down. If you’re having a hard time naming your feeling, you can use a list of feeling words to help. Sometimes what you’re feeling will express physically. This too is important.
  3. Ask yourself, a)“what is this feeling trying to tell me?” Be open and honest with what comes up. Remember to also be gentle and nonjudgemental with what arises. Feelings are nonlinear. b) “how much of this is mine?”. I believe we are all more connected than ever before. Not only do we take on feelings of our loved ones, but we are also feeling on behalf of the collective. There is nothing wrong with this and it’s important to discern what is yours and what is not.
  4. Decide whether an action needs to be taken. Most times a feeling that arises will be satisfied solely with your attention. Other times it will want you to act on its behalf.
  5. Finally, track your daily moods and the contexts in which those moods arise. Overtime, this will provide you with a personal feeling framework to understand the information coming through your feelings.
